Steve Morgan Foundation awards £10,000 to provide support

Torus Foundation is delighted to have been awarded £10,000 towards emergency food hampers, from the Steve Morgan Foundation’s emergency hardship fund.

In response to Covid-19, the fund has been launched to help with costs encountered by frontline services such as Torus Foundation, delivering essential support to hard-hit communities.

Many people living within the neighbourhoods Torus Foundation works across, have been hugely impacted by recent events. Thanks to the generous donation, Torus Foundation has been able to increase the support being delivered to some of our most vulnerable members of the community who are in need of essential supplies.

In addition to the wider programme of services being delivered to reduce isolation, provide employment and online support, funding has allowed the team to co-ordinate the urgent food supplies from FireFit Hub in South Liverpool, which is the flagship project of Torus Foundation.

Before Covid-19 hit, FireFit would welcome around 150 young members a day to the facility. Rules on social distancing meant the Hub had to temporary close, but it’s been transformed into a base to store hundreds of non-perishable items such as tinned food, rice and pasta etc, which is being used to feed individuals or families for several days.

Jennifer Van der Merwe, Centre Manager at FireFit Hub said,

“The team has adapted to continue providing support and we’re delighted that our large sports hall can be put to good use during this time and accommodate the production line while we prepare hundreds of food hampers.”

Kate Shone, Managing Director at Torus Foundation add,

“This donation is not only generous, but crucial and we’re extremely grateful to the Steve Morgan Foundation. Both charities have a strong purpose to putting people first and together we’re able to make a significant difference to many of our vulnerable members living within our communities.”

Steve Morgan has committed to give up to £1m a week during the first 12 weeks of Covid-19 to support some of the most vulnerable sectors of society across Merseyside, North Wales and Cheshire. He said,

“The enthusiasm and commitment to making a difference from the Torus Foundation was there for all to see and I’m really pleased that food hampers will reach the people who most need them with a little bit of help from us.”
