COVID FAQs

FireFit's FAQ's regarding COVID and the recent changes to restrictions attending the Hub

Q. Who is the FireFit Hub currently open to?

A. As of 14th October, and in line with Government restrictions, the FireFit Hub is only open to young people age 6-19.

Q. What safety measures are in place at FireFit?

A. The safety of our members and our staff is always our main priority, so we’ve put in a number of measures so young people have a safe space to get healthy and have fun. Our key measures include:

  • Limiting the numbers of members in certain areas of the Hub

  • Hand sanitisers stations throughout the Hub

  • Protection screens at reception

  • Enhanced cleaning schedules

  • Staff sanitising equipment after every use

  • Cleaning equipment for members to use, should they wish to

  • More space in between gym equipment and furniture to allow social distancing

  • Face coverings to be worn by people aged 12+ at all times across the Hub unless taking part in a sport/fitness session

Q. What facilities are available?

A. FireFit is a space where our community can come to get healthy and have fun, but right now, we need to follow Government guidelines, which means we have had to make some changes.

Junior Zone – Members age 6-11 (Primary School age)+ Monday to Friday - 4.30pm – 530pm

Youth Zone – 11-19yr olds Monday to Friday - Session 1 – 5.45pm - 7.15pm / Session 2 – 7.30pm - 9pm

Adult Members - In line with Government restrictions, we are currently not able to open to adult members. We are working on alternative ways to make sure you are staying fit and well during these difficult times.

Q. Why are you not open to adult members?

A. FireFit has worked hard to make sure we are covid safe COVID-secure for all our members, no matter what their age. However, Government restrictions, which came into place on 14th October 2020 mean we are unable to open our Hub to people aged 19+. There is an exception for young people up to the age of 19 who are accessing our youth programme, which is why we can remain open to them.

Q. Can I drop off and pick up my child from FireFit?

A. You can still pick up and drop off your child, however, we ask that you work to keep our staff and members safe:

  • Wear a face covering if you are inside the Hub

  • Keep socially distanced from other households

  • Attend alone where possible

  • Avoid forming a crowd by stepping away from the doors while you wait

  • Wait outside in the designated waiting area where possible

  • Only arrive at the time your child’s session ends

Q. How are you keeping children apart during sessions?

A. Our activities have been designed to support social distancing wherever possible. For a limited number of sporting activities where children may not be able to stay 2 metres apart at all times, we are following all the published sporting and youth activity guidance to ensure children are not in close contact for any longer than permitted. If you would like to know what we are doing for specific activities to keep children apart please get in touch.

Q. Is FireFit using the NHS COVID-19 QR codes?

A. The NHS COVID-19 app is only designed for people aged 16 and over, so it is not required for our younger members to sign into FireFit using the app. For those over 16 we do have an NHS COVID-19 app QR code on entering the building. If you have installed the NHS COVID-19 app on your child’s phone they will be encouraged to use it when entering the building, and we would ask you to also encourage them to do so.

To make sure we don’t miss anyone, all members need to sign into the Hub at reception when they arrive so we have a clear picture of who is in the Hub and when.

Q. What should I do if I, my child or someone I care for tests positive for COVID-19 after attending FireFit?

A. If you or someone you care for tests positive for COVID-19 after attending FireFit, please get in touch so we can inform the people you were in contact with.

Q. What happens if someone I was in contact with at FireFit tests positive for COVID-19?

A. If you have been in close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19 while at FireFit Hub, we will inform you. However, we will keep the identity of the person who has tested positive private.
